THE EDNA IRENE
Having suffered severe injuries through the Second World War, 1946 found L. Ron Hubbard more or less recuperating on the California island of Santa Catalina. There, he oversaw the administration of a local yacht club and, most important, continued upon the greater trail of research that would soon culminate in Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. In what amounted to a sideline, however, he also drafted an occasional piece for the Catalina Islander. The Edna Irene, published anonymously, appeared in that newspaper on November 21, 1946.
