THE ALASKA CHIEF

Essentially the signature ballad for L. Ron Hubbard’s Alaskan radio show, a recording of Ron performing his “Alaska Chief” preceded every “Mail Buoy” program. At ballad’s end, with “four bells and a jingle,” he would next be heard welcoming listeners with a hearty, “Greetings mariners!” The ballad itself tells of the all too typical north Pacific disaster Ron had dedicated himself to curbing, and is prefaced by the following: “To be played at midnight, on a Spanish guitar or ukulele with two jugs of whiskey. And with proper sad emphasis.”
